WKRP the fictitious radio station always reminded me of the real Cincinnati station WEBN (though WEBN was always FM, not AM). WEBN started as a classical music and jazz station. The owner operator let his son program a show called Jelly Pudding where he programmed deep album rock cuts. Eventually the album rock proved to be so popular that it took over the station in the late 60s, but the father kept a classical music show that he programmed on Sunday mornings until the late 80s.
Loving it, you guys. Although this is one more pop-cultural phenom that will distance me from my students! Keep 'em coming!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the podcast, guys.
